"This 268 page book details the combination of the sixteen counties in the Mountain Empire area or those counties west of Roanoke. These include Floyd, Franklin, Giles, Grayson, Henry, Lee, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski, Roanoke, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, and Wythe. This record includes the name of head of household, the numbers of those living in the household including the free colored, occupation of those in the household, personal data, such as "blind, dead, insane, etc." and some school records with the number of schools and types. In addition, there is a listing in the households as to those receiving a pension for the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812."
