Vintage & Collectible Virginia Postcards

Birds-Eye View of Lynchburg, Virginia

This postcard gives us a historic birds-eye view of Lynchburg, Virginia.  The postmark is dated August 20, 1906, and comes from Paynes, Virginia. This card belongs to the "Undivided Back" era, in which the senders often ended up writing on the front of the card, because the entire back was intended for the recipient's address, according to The Postcard Price Guide, 4th Ed., A Comprehensive Reference. This period ran from 1901-1907.

This is a Raphael Tuck & Sons' Post Card Series No. 2374, "Lynchburg, Va."

The message below the photograph reads, "I am taking in the town today all by my self. R. H. B."

The card was mailed to Miss Mary PAYNE of Paynes, Virginia.
