The Olden Times
Updates: June 29, 2001
Hello again, friends & fellow hunters!
I may be out of pocket this weekend: an electrician will be here tomorrow (this morning, actually, since it's now 1 a.m.) to replace our still-functional knob & tube wiring. Amen!
Let's just hope the deep freeze keeps all that venison frozen, or the meat bill will be going up.
I may drag the computer with me to the hotel, however, so don't hesitate to email & tell me when you find bad links or have questions.
I'm still waiting for some correspondence to come through regarding the most recent "Connections" pages, before I add the newest. But I am very excited about what I will be adding, pending confirmations!
Of course, there's never enough time for all of it, is there?
Speaking of which, I had to spend lots of time fixing some links that shouldn't have been bad (grrrr..), which left me much less time for adding new material. As long as our expected new puppies arrive without a hitch some time next week, I will be going great guns & adding loads of new material.
After the lights come back on, of course.
For those of you who are new subscribers, this portion of The Olden Times is not indexed by the FreeFind search engine's spider, so you have the advantage of the updates and the bimonthly index of locations only if you're a subscriber.
For whatever that's worth. Hey - at least it's free!
As usual, this week's newsletter includes names added in the past two weeks AND locations, too, along with a few notable headlines.
For those of you who are new to this newsletter, I'm going to add a new page where you can link to past issues of Updates.
Got Brits? Great new U. K. link!
Paul Benyon's Home Page You've gotta see Paul's pages! No fluff here: just good, solid stuff. Parish record transcripts & extracts, Royal Navy historical interest, Dorset & Wessex information and much, much more.
Oh, and I guess I ought to mention that I've added an "Old English News" section, since I had received some old British papers as part of an eBay "grab bag" win. I figured that I may as well use 'em! You never know what someone will discover in those old pages!
I have a special request for any readers who live in the Memphis, Tennessee area...
One of our readers is seeking an obituary which can be obtained at the Memphis Public Library. Alas, their fees are a little on the high end. If you are able to print a copy of this obituary from the library's microfilm for Sheila Jarrett, please contact her at sjarrett_81@yahoo.com. I know she'll really appreciate your help.
Folks are making connections!
I can't tell you how thrilled I am when someone finds a familiar name here on The Olden Times! I've begun adding a few of the interesting emails that I receive about this site and the old stories. There isn't a link yet from the main part of the site, but you can see the beginning of this new section on the Connections pages.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I think ya'll must be some of the nicest folks around, judging from your email, and I am lucky to be able to share this with you. I really enjoy it.
I am very grateful for your support, whether you've told someone about The Olden Times, or bought your printer ink through one of the links here to Proinkjets.com, or emailed me to tell me you like the website. Any way you slice it, you've helped me out!
I hope to live up to my end of the deal by continuing to provide good content...at a price you'll like: FREE!
As always, thanks for your patience, and thanks for visiting.

I want to encourage you to browse through the vintage postcards. The index of locations is here. Think of them as a virtual tour of the past!
I posted one in particular that charmed me (yes, even more than the rest of them do). It's an image of swimmers at the Paluxy River near Glen Rose, Texas. I even provided a larger version if you want to see it in greater detail, just for the swimwear! I like the "slide" that years of posteriors had worn into the rocky riverbank, the old-fashioned swimsuits, and best of all, the "farmer tans" on the boys! These were hard-working folks, and that is hot country. Sure wish I knew where their swimmin' hole was: that slide looks like fun!
