Hello, ya'll!
I guess that perhaps we ought to not count on the newsletter being sent "on the dot" every two weeks, but every two weeks, give or take a day or two!
This portion of The Olden Times is not indexed by the FreeFind search engine's spider, so you have the advantage of the updates and the bimonthly index of locations only if you're a subscriber. For whatever that's worth!
This week's newsletter includes names added in the past two weeks AND locations, too, along with a few notable headlines.
I have a special request for any readers who live in the Memphis, Tennessee area...
One of our readers is seeking an obituary which can be obtained at the Memphis Public Library. Alas, their fees are a little on the high end. If you are able to print a copy of this obituary from the library's microfilm for Sheila Jarrett, please contact her at sjarrett_81@yahoo.com. I know she'll really appreciate your help!
Military History News
Jack Novicki brings us more wonderful information! See this page for information on where you can donate historical military items. Thank you again, Jack!
Texas Researchers Note:
I have added a link to another website with old newspaper goodies from Texas! Early Texas Newspaper Extracts features 1890's Texas newspapers with genealogy data such as death notices, marriages, obituaries and much more.
Folks are making connections!
I can't tell you how thrilled I am when someone finds a familiar name here on The Olden Times! Beginning next week, The Olden Times will feature a special Connections page so I can share the good news with all of you!
Many of you have found The Olden Times because I post notices on the GenForum, GenConnect and FamilyHistory.com boards on occasion. Because the site is new, not that many people know that we're here. Since I can't afford to buy advertising, message boards help me let people know that there's a clue waiting for them over here...when I have time to post messages, that is!
I am not able to post a message on the various bulletin boards for each story that I post, though I dearly wish that I could. That's where your "word of mouth" helps me so much! Thanks to everyone who has used the Recommend-It button to share an old article in The Olden Times with friends and fellow researchers!
Recommend-it should be set up now so that the recipient of the email gets the url to the page where you'd clicked on the Recommend-it button...that way, if you really want someone to see the list of Dr. Smith's satisfied tapeworm patients, they'll get the url directly to that page, rather than to the home page of this website.
And you get a chance, if you choose, to be entered to win $10,000, too!
If you belong to a mailing list whose members might be interested in a particular story, or in the website, please let folks know. I appreciate your help.
Well, my husband thinks that I'm never going to finish this newsletter, and my 9 year old is in tears because his balloon popped, so I'd better finish up.
Thanks again for visiting The Olden Times!
