I'll keep it short & sweet tonight, as family duties
are calling. I'd wanted to add quite a bit more - both "new" old
stories and a tale or two to this newsletter, but if I wait until I have it
"just right," I'll never get this sent.
If you're a new subscriber, many of the old issues of
the Newsletter can be found here, on the Updates
page. Also, if this is the first newsletter you've received in a long time, it
may not be just a case of me being slow to get them out! I have learned
that my email server has not been sending all of the newsletters properly. You
can confirm whether or not you've received all of the newsletters by comparing
what you got with the Updates
page. I apologize for the errors, but I'm trying to learn as I go along!
I do want to make a quick comment about return visits.
Whether you're browsing the Bookstore or reading any of the old news, you
might want to click your browser's "refresh" or "reload"
button once in a while. You may not be looking at the most recently updated
version of the page! I tend to do a lot of updates in any given area at once,
as that's the most time-efficient way of working on this (for me), so if
you're not sure, try "refresh" or "reload" to see if
you've got the most recent version of the page.
By the way - I have discovered two great resources for
out-of-print, rare, and otherwise difficult-to-find books: Alibris
and Abebooks.com
.
Alibris says they've got books you never thought you'd find, and trust me -
they do! And as Abebooks, says, they're where over 30 million used, rare, out-of-print books are just a click
away, online @ abebooks.com
They aren't kidding, either! You'll see the links around TheOldenTimes.com, and
especially in the Bookstore, where you'll find links to specific titles that
you won't find on Amazon.com. I've purchased books from each of these
merchants and I haven't had any trouble with either one. I've found some very
unusual items, too, such as a Funeral Memorial book, among other things. Try
searching the Ephemera category at Abebooks for an interesting array of unique
items.
For those of you who are new subscribers, this portion of The Olden Times
Updates Newsletter is not indexed by the
FreeFind search engine's spider (as is the rest of the website), so you have the advantage of the updates
and the bimonthly index of locations only if you're a subscriber.
For whatever that's worth. Hey - at least it's free!
Folks are making connections!
I can't tell you how thrilled I am when someone finds a
familiar name here on The Olden Times! I've begun adding a few of the
interesting emails that I receive about this site and the old stories.
There isn't a link yet from the main part of the
site, but you can see the beginning of this new section on the Connections
pages.
I have so many more Connections stories to add, and
I wish I could get caught up, but...
I'm still behind, as always, in getting everything online,
but I'll keep working at it, so if you don't see something that you've sent to
me, please be patient with me and keep watching...
Thank you so much to all of you who have supported this
website, whether you have purchased a genealogy CD from Genealogy.com,
printer
ink from All-Ink.com,
gifts from Amazon.com, or simply sent me a supportive email.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
To those of you who've let me know about bad links or
errors, I am very grateful! I hardly have time to work on the site, much less
surf it.
I have the nicest visitors in the world! Thank you
for making this hobby of mine such a delightful endeavor!
Please stay safe, and remember those glorious words, e
pluribus unum.
Out of many, one.
As always, thanks for your patience, and thanks for
visiting.
