, LEGARE had
been a lawyer, a statesman, author and journalist.
LEGARE was born at Charleston, South Carolina on January 2, 1797.He
represented South Carolina in congress from 1837 to 1839, and he was appointed
Attorney-General and acting Secretary of State of the United States in 1841. He
died in Boston, MA on June 20, 1843.
