Unique!  Two Account Books from a Country Store in Tiverton, Rhode Island, 1828-29 and 1831
From the seller: "Condition: Internally Very Good. 6 1/4" Wide x 15" and 16" Tall. Leather and Boards. Internally Very Good. 6 1/4" Wide x 15" and 16" Tall. Did any of your ancestors live in the Tiverton, Rhode Island area in the 1800s? If so, these ledgers give a rare glimpse into their daily lives and shopping habits. One of these account books contains a newspaper clipping which provides some provenance. It is dated, in pencil, Feb. 1954 and reads, in part, "Mrs. Ruth Bliss entertained the Smith Mills Travelers' Club with a review of several short books, including 'Old Country Store,' by Gerald Carson. She showed an old account book from a country store in Tiverton in which her family had had an interest. The dates were in 1831 and the prices drew much interest by comparison with present prices." The leather spines and marbled boards are aged, soiled, stained, shelf- and edge-worn and deteriorating, but the contents are quite legible. Interiors are aged, soiled, stained, wormed and possibly chewed. A brief sampling of some of the names which appear repeatedly: Coggeshall, Chace, Manchester, Grinnell, Moshier, Tripp, King, Dunfee, Dennis, Macomber, Simmons, Brownell, Dwelley, Rounds, Slocum, Duvall, Cony, and more. The 16" tall account book, dated 1831, is thicker and in better interior condition than the 15" tall ledger. This shorter book begins June 17, 1828 and ends April 23, 1829. The first 4 pages of this book were torn out (or chewed) and pages 5-10 have gaping holes. The final 2 pages of this ledger are Hiram Bliss's accounting of his cash flow. An extremely rare find"
