Powhatan Alexander MAY Biographical Notes
Powhatan Alexander May was the son of William Meredith May (1783 - 1845) and his second wife, Catherine Mask Jarrett (1797 - ? ). He was born in Tennessee in 1832.
Powhatan is named in his father William Meredith May's will, which is dated August 9, 1845.
Powhatan May is found in the 1850 Fayette County, Tennessee census in District 12, living in the household of John W. Dyer.
He married Amy BRANCH in Fayette County, Tennessee on December 7, 1852. Their children were:
Billy Dick May, born September 17, 1856, died February 1860
Robert Emmett May, born January 16, 1859, died ?
Samuel B. May, born February 27, 1851, died July 22, 1855
Al three children were buried at Ebenezer Cemetery near Williston in Fayette County, Tennessee.
Powhatan May served with the 13th Tennessee Infantry during the Civil War. His military records may be found here.
