This postcard was never used nor is
there any writing on the back. It was once pasted into someone's scrapbook, as
evidenced by the tape on the reverse side of the card. Unfortunately,
the tape obscured the first part of the description of the Indian Mission that's
found on the back of the card, but what I can read says this: "...was
built in 1742 by St. ...missionary at Waw-go-n...ki-sa, which means 'Crooked
Tree.' L... the name was changed to Middle Village. At one time this village was
the largest in the region of the Great Lakes." |
