Vintage & Collectible Michigan Postcards:

The Indian Mission

Middle Village, Emmett County, Michigan

Date Unknown

This postcard was never used nor is there any writing on the back. It was once pasted into someone's scrapbook, as evidenced by the tape on the reverse side  of the card.

Unfortunately, the tape obscured the first part of the description of the Indian Mission that's found on the back of the card, but what I can read says this:

"...was built in 1742 by St. ...missionary at Waw-go-n...ki-sa, which means 'Crooked Tree.' L... the name was changed to Middle Village. At one time this village was the largest in the region of the Great Lakes."
