The Basketball Team

San Angelo High School, 1927

"The team of 1927 had a great season. Coach POPE put out one of the strongest teams that has ever graced the courts of S. A. H. S. Around Captain KING was built an offense that was seldom stopped and a defense as tight as an Egyptian pyramid. Five left overs from 1926 combined with good new material was the combination. Fourteen men saw service during the season. Nine of them lettering, they are: KING, MILLER, EPPS, HARDIN, STEWART, WILLS, McCAMEY, LANCASTER, and BATES. Seven of these are Seniors and to those who are left, with the help of the fighting subs will be the task of building just as great a team next year as that of '27.

The record of the season was: Won eleven, Lost four. Total points: 350. Opponents: 255. McCAMEY, captain-elect was high-point man.

The in-eligibility of one of the players, who had participated in a championship game, kept the Bobcats from the District Meet, after having won the four-county championship. But watch the kittens next year."
