We James S. SMITH and Mary C. SMITH have this day
bargained and sold and hereby do transfer and convey to Edmund Lily ALLEN his
heirs and assigns forever for the consideration of ten dollars to us paid the
receipt of which is hereby acknowledged and the further consideration of the
natural love and affection that we have toward the said Edmund ALLEN and his
wife Rebecca M. ALLEN a tract of land in the county of Fayette and State of
Tennessee in 11 Surveyors District Range One and section 1 and of Chickasaw
purchase Township 1 Range 2 West lying north of section 2 and containing by
estimation one hundred forty acres ... ... ... more or less and bounded as
follows viz Beginning at a stake in a branch 22 poles South and 13 poles West of
the Southwest corner of A. POOL's 13 acre Entry. Runs thence East 13 Poles to a
post Oak, thence North 22 Poles to a stake white oak post and Hickory pointers
said POOL's Southwest corner, thence East 75 poles to a stake 3 Black Oak
pointers Tom BLACK's northwest corner. Thence south crossing Winchester old line
in all 233 poles to a stake Sam ...'s Corner. Thence west 100 poles to a stake
D. SMITH's South East corner Thence North with his line crossing Winchester's
line in all 122 poles to a gum in Said Branch thence with this meanders of said
branch bearing a little east of north to the beginning. To have and to hold the
said Edmund ALLEN his heirs and assigns forever and we the said James S. SMITH
and Mary C. SMITH covenants with the said Edmund ALLEN that we are lawfully ---
of said land have a good right to convey it and that the same is unencumbered.
We do further covenant and bind ourselves to warrant (?) and forever defend the
title of the said land and every --- past --- of to the said Edmund ALLEN his
heirs and assigns forever against the lawful claim of all and every (?) person
or persons whatever. In testimony of which we have here unto set our hands and
seals this 23rd day of May 1848.
